Parent Involvement
Home is the first school and parents are the first teachers. Southside Christian School wants to become an extension of your family unit. We strive to support the family and respect parental authority and responsibility in all we do. At the core of our philosophy of education is the conviction that parents are ultimately responsible for the education of their children. We see ourselves as “subcontractors” of the parents. Our authority and our task are delegated to us from the parents. Since, we strongly encourage parental involvement in our school, we request that each kindergarten – eighth grade family volunteer ten hours per year to the school.
We work hard at communicating with our parents to keep them informed of their child’s progress – academically, spiritually, and behaviorally. At Southside we are continually seeking ways to actively involve parents and grandparents of our students in the programs of the school.
Below are just a few of the more common ways this is done. You may:- Pray on a regular basis for the school.
- Closely monitor and praise your child’s progress by reading all teacher notes and papers sent home.
- Continue the expectation of academic excellence at home by reinforcing the skills your student is learning at school.
- Assist in the classroom, regularly or periodically. Arrangements should be made with the teacher concerned.
- Attend all Parent-Teacher Conferences. Informal conferences may be held anytime at the parent’s request.
- Act as a chaperone on field trips and/or library visits.
- Become actively involved in the PTF (Parent Teacher Fellowship).
- Volunteer your time and effort to help with the school’s fund-raisers.
- Present your unique talents or experiences as they relate to an area of study in a class.
- Volunteer in the following areas: school library, lunchroom, recess monitor, preschool greeter.
