Enrichment ActivitiesPreschool - Eighth GradeSouthside Christian School is committed to providing our students with a broad choice of enriching activities that stimulate artistic, physical and creative growth. Music We believe music is a gift from God, and the appreciation of music begins at a very young age. Educational concepts are often taught through music and the repetition of words to music promotes memorization skills. Music also provides creative expression to the goodness of God. Preschool children have music classes with our Music Teacher two times per month and weekly for our barely 5 students. Vocal and instrumental concepts are introduced in an active and fun environment. Elementary students (K-5) have music on a weekly basis taught by our Elementary Music Director. Students participate in classroom instruction of the fundamentals of music theory as well as hands on instrumental and vocal instruction. Students have several opportunities throughout the year to showcase their musical talent. Fourth - Eighth grade students have the opportunity to join our youth choir. Students receive vocal instruction and have the opportunity to perform at community events. Physical Education We believe physical education plays an important role in providing a balanced education for each student. Our physical education teaches and promotes the foundation for healthy living. Preschool children participate in one recess per day. We believe children learn valuable lessons in active play. Elementary and Middle School students are bussed to Morning Star Boys Ranch on a weekly basis for two hours of physical education. All students participate in various sports and activities. Middle School students also participate in a health curriculum. Foreign Language We believe the study of foreign language broadens student’s minds to the world around them, and promotes an appreciation for cultural diversity. Preschool barely 5 students are introduced to the basics of the Spanish language twice a month. Elementary (K-5) students are taught Spanish as part of a weekly curriculum. Our Spanish teacher incorporates language skills as well as hands on projects and classroom study of Spanish culture, history and geography. Middle School students may participate in a daily zero hour Rosetta Stone Spanish course that is computer based and facilitated by a teacher. This is an additional cost of $30.00 a month. This class is offered if a minimum of eight students are enrolled. Art We believe the study of and the participation in art classes play an important role in providing a balanced education for each student. Art is a creative expression. Preschool children participate in many creative activities. Art is an integral part of early learning and is incorporated into the instruction of many academic concepts. Elementary (K-5) students are taught Art as part of a weekly curriculum. Our elementary Art teacher incorporates the study of Art History as well as many hands on projects and activities. Middle School Electives Our middle school students are given a broad choice of elective courses that provide a balanced education. Elective choices vary each year. |
